Never over fill your pressure cooker

A pressure cooker should only be filled half way with food or three fourths of the way with liquids. There is a large amount of steam that exist inside a pressure cooker and it needs to be able to escape or be released. If the pressure cooker is too full food particles or pieces can get stuck in the valves of the pressure cooker making the release if the steam obstructed and cause it to explode.

Check and replace the valves

A very important part of a pressure cooker and you need to check it often. Making it part of using your pressure cooker such as checking it before each use is a good way to remember to check and change it when needed. Many manufactures suggest changing it once a year but if you use it often you might want to change it more frequently.

A pressure cooker is not a fryer!

You should never use your pressure cooker pan for deep frying. Hot oil is highly combustible and a pressure cooker is not made for this type of use. It can cause a lot of harm if hot oil pops or explodes.
